I have now been here for a month and let me say
THANK GOODNESS I have backup plans for back up plans. My job I was
supposed to have when out here fell threw, my back up job for that one told me
I had to re-interview for them even though I already work for the company
because California is a "Special" state. (That interview went well
and I have part two of the process, hopefully, sometime this month in case
anyone was interested). Thank goodness for my backup, backup job that I
had while in Florida and my AWESOME Bestie who got me a Transcription job for
the summer, yes I type stupid fast. It is only a couple days a week, but
it is amazing!
So...My advice, so far, for anyone planning this
move: Have back ups for your backups! So you don't stress out and think you've
made some horrible mistake. That's just your vulture talking; just punch
it in the metaphorical face.
Now since I've been here for a month I have
been continuing my research and finding the best places, teacher,
etc. that works for me.
I went to Margie Haber's Orientation (which is where you have to
go to get the information on her classes) and before going I had heard great
things about her school. Going there it was a one on one with her, which
apparently isn't' the norm, and I really liked her vibe. Her style
is all about the relationships that are going on. Which to me is super
important. I really liked her and she's definitely on my list.
Next I went to Casting Director Chris Game's Free
Seminar/Lecture thing (yes they do have Free stuff here) and he was AWESOME!
He's mainly commercial, but I liked his no holds bar, super honest
attitude. If you get a chance to go it is definitely worth your time. He's
moved to the top of my list.
I then went to Jack Plotnick's Lecture's (2 for $10 and it
goes to Charity) and I love him! I have been a fan of his for years, ever since
'Girls Will Be Girls'. Getting to hear him talk about acting and his approach
was so refreshing because it's EXACTLY how I feel. Be fresh, don't overly
prepare, and ignore your Vulture on your shoulder. It's more
"organic", for lack of a better term. He has great, FREE,
information on his website. If you
are into Affirmations some of his are the best. To quote Sutton Foster, "During the long run of MILLIE ... all of my demons and
insecurities were getting the better of me. (Your friend) shared with me
your affirmations and I would read them every night before I went out on stage
and remind myself of them while I was on stage. ...They are now a permanent
part of my dressing room collection. They got me through many
'rough and doubtful' times. So thank you."
So now it's time for some
decisions, new headshots and submissions. Let's do this!
